Melissa was born in Edmonds, WA, completed her Bachelors of Science in Cellular Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Western Washington University in Bellingham in 2007, and her Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in Innovation and Entrepreneurialism at Seattle University in 2014. Since completing her education she has been a community leader on behalf of foundations supporting the Seattle Colleges, served innovators as a business consultant, and committed years of service to academic researchers supporting research programs, participating in national dialogue, and serving as a leader in sponsored research program compliance. Melissa is passionate about supporting researchers and helping them minimize administrative burden while realizing their innovative dreams. With her eight years of experience as the Assistant Vice Provost or Research Compliance at the University of Washington she is also the author of their current Financial Conflict of Interest policy and drafted most, if not all, of their current guidance for outside professional (work) activities for academic personnel, financial conflicts of interest, and responsible (and ethical) conduct of research.
